Overview
Justin Fisch represents clients in the clean technology and carbon projects development industry in connection with a variety of matters, including the development, financing, acquisition, and disposition of projects, as well as negotiation and drafting of project contracts with service providers.
Justin has extensive regulatory and litigation experience, representing clients before local, state, and federal regulators, specifically on the handling, management, shipping, and storage of batteries and related technologies, as well as air, water, and land use matters.
With experience spanning energy project finance, energy project development, environmental, permitting, natural resources land use, and social impact law, Justin counsels clients on tax equity, private equity investments, debt finance, climate change law, and environmental and land use within the renewable energy and environmental sectors. His legal skills encompass drafting documents such as financing agreements, supply and operation agreements, maintenance agreements, procurement agreements, diligence memoranda, and litigation briefs.
Justin’s background includes serving as energy and regulatory counsel at a prominent innovation hub, offering both in-house and outside counsel.
Beyond his legal skill, Justin’s adventurous spirit shines in his exploration of the Arctic and Antarctic regions, where he has worked as a naturalist and lecturer with Quark Expeditions and Lindblad Expeditions to inform his approach to environmental law, emphasizing cross-border perspectives and collaboration. Justin’s legal journey includes a clerkship for Judge Mohammed Bennouna of Morocco at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, focusing on maritime border determinations. Fluent in both French and English, he has contributed to legal education by instructing environmental law bilingually at the University of Ottawa.
Before joining Stoel Rives, Justin was an associate and a summer associate at a major firm.

- Advised clients on private equity investments, mergers, and commercial lending transactions, as well as general corporate matters and corporate governance.
- Advised companies, nonprofit organizations, and stakeholders on substantive issues of energy and environmental law, including groundwater remediation, air emissions and navigation compliance, and project litigation and environmental risk.
- Counseled clients on climate change law, including emissions reduction regulations throughout the United States, renewable energy credit and carbon offset markets, climate risks, and compliance.
- Advised large corporations and small brownfield developers on land use law and policy related to development risks, municipal processes, permitting requirements, and provided land use diligence analysis.
