Overview

Jennifer Spaith is a trusted source of intellectual property advice for Stoel Rives’ clients. Jennifer has experience in counseling clients in the acquisition and enforcement of all forms of intellectual property. She frequently advises on the development of targeted IP portfolios that meet competitive business goals and manage litigation risk. Jennifer has deep and specific experience with patent prosecution and portfolio management, including the development and analysis of litigation-ready patent assets. Jennifer leverages her technical background to work skillfully in complex electrical and software disciplines and adjacent fields. She has represented companies of all sizes that develop a range of technologies, including virtualized software systems, artificial intelligence and generative AI, distributed storage, wireless communication systems, semiconductor processing and circuitry, power electronics, medical devices, imaging systems, surgical navigation and robotic surgery, video game software and systems, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) applications, blockchain technologies, biosensors, and clean or renewable energy technologies, including purification technologies and waste-to-energy systems.

Jennifer also frequently advises clients on transactional matters involving technology and intellectual property.

Before joining Stoel Rives, Jennifer was a partner and patent agent with a global AmLaw 100 firm.

Experience

  • Conducted invention disclosure meetings, prepared patent applications, and managed patent prosecution for a range of technologies.
  • Conducted patent due diligence and post-transaction title transfer in fields ranging from optical systems to wireless communication to medical devices and treatments.
  • Prepared license and other agreements in support of IP transfer, including co-development and joint venture arrangements, and assisted in negotiation of IP terms in definitive transaction documents.
  • Counseled clients on patent strategies, including use of expedited examination techniques, provisional applications, development of a global portfolio footprint, and preparation for patent assertion and defense.
