Stoel Rives Partner Honored with 2017 ‘Best Lawyers Under 40’ Award

National Asian Pacific American Bar Association recognizes John Solano Laney for leadership in the Asian American legal community

SEATTLE — Stoel Rives is proud to announce that the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) has honored partner John Solano Laney with its Best Lawyers Under 40 Award. The honor recognizes talented individuals in the Asian Pacific American legal community who are under the age of 40, have achieved distinction in their fields, and have demonstrated a strong commitment to Asian Pacific civic or community affairs.

“It is such an honor to be recognized by NAPABA,” said Laney, a partner in Stoel Rives’ Corporate group. “Currently, I am the only Filipino-American practicing corporate law at an Am Law 200 firm in Seattle.  I have personally benefited from the work NAPABA has undertaken to establish greater ethnic diversity within the legal profession and strive to pay that forward.”

A dedicated advocate for greater minority representation in the law, Laney has served as a mentor to Asian Pacific American lawyers throughout the Washington legal community and Filipino-American lawyers nationwide. He volunteers his time with NAPABA-affiliated organizations such as the Asian Bar Association of Washington, the Filipino Lawyers of Washington and the National Filipino American Lawyers Association. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and earned his law degree from Seattle University School of Law.

Laney represents clients in mergers and acquisitions, credit finance and other business transactions. He often works with companies in the energy, health care, manufacturing, and food and beverage industries, including clients such as Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc.
