Stoel Rives Partner Elected President of Cultivating Change Foundation Board

Press Release

Kirk Maag will lead board of directors of national nonprofit dedicated to diversity in agricultural industry

PORTLAND, Ore. (June 2020) — Stoel Rives LLP is pleased to announce that partner Kirk Maag has been elected president of the board of directors for the Cultivating Change Foundation, a national nonprofit whose mission is to value and elevate LGBTQ individuals in the agricultural industry. Maag will lead the board to advance the organization’s mission, working closely with the organization’s new interim executive director Gary Brackett.

“I am honored to be elected as the president of the board of directors for the Cultivating Change Foundation,” said Maag. “The Foundation’s mission to value and elevate LGBTQ agriculturists remains as relevant and important as ever. I look forward to collaborating with Gary and our board to build on our past success and accelerate the advancement of our mission through expanded programming and an increased focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.”

Maag has served on the Foundation’s board of directors since the Foundation’s formation. He joined the board because he wants every young person who is passionate about the agriculture and forest products industries to know that they are welcome, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Maag co-leads Stoel Rives’ firm-wide Agribusiness, Food, Beverage, and Timber team, which consists of more than 50 attorneys and paralegals in nine offices nationwide. He is a leader and trusted advisor in the agriculture and forest products industries and is a prolific speaker and author for legal issues in those industries. Maag is a leader of Stoel Rives’ LGBTQ+ affinity group and serves as an ambassador for the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiative, Move The Needle Fund.

In addition to his service to the Cultivating Change Foundation, Maag serves as president of Oregon FFA (Future Farmers of America) Foundation. He also sits on the board of the Oregon Water Resources Congress and the executive committee for the Oregon State Bar’s Environment & Natural Resources Section.
