Stoel Rives Names Todd Hanchett Portland Office Managing Partner
PORTLAND, Ore. — Stoel Rives LLP, an AmLaw 200 firm, announced today that Todd Hanchett was named Office Managing Partner of the firm’s Portland office as of January 1, 2022. As Office Managing Partner, Hanchett is responsible for the day-to-day management of the office, supporting its business activities and recruiting efforts. In his new role, Hanchett succeeds Penny Serrurier and David Filippi, who served as Portland’s Co-Office Managing Partners from 2017 to 2021.
“In addition to his exceptional skill as a labor and employment attorney, Todd has demonstrated strong leadership in business development and mentorship throughout his career with Stoel Rives,” said Melissa Jones, Stoel Rives’ Firm Managing Partner. “His dedication to pro bono work and energetic support for our diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives are important to the future leadership of the firm. Todd’s practice experience is also an asset to firm leadership as we continue to monitor and manage the impact of the ongoing pandemic and take steps to get our people safely back to the office.”
Hanchett, who joined Stoel Rives in 2012, has over 20 years of experience practicing labor and employment law. A seasoned litigator, he represents clients in high-stakes employment matters before state and federal courts around the country. In his traditional labor practice, Todd acts as lead spokesperson in labor negotiations, regularly handles labor arbitrations, advises clients on workforce issues and ongoing contract administration and represents clients before the National Labor Relations Board.
“I am honored to serve as Office Managing Partner in Portland, where Stoel has roots dating back to the 1800s. We will continue to provide clients with unrivalled legal counsel and recruit and retain top-quality and diverse talent to enhance our bench strength and enrich our firm culture,” Hanchett said. “Stoel Rives is a part of the fabric of this community, and we will continue our longstanding commitment to working with businesses and partnering with nonprofits to support a thriving local community and economy.”
Recognized as a thought leader on labor and employment law, Todd is a frequent speaker and author of articles on employment and labor law topics. Highly engaged in Oregon’s legal industry, he previously served as Director of the Oregon Chapter of the Federal Bar Association; Director of Oregon Association of Defense Counsel; and Chair of Oregon Association of Defense Counsel’s Employment Law Practice Group. Todd is a graduate of Willamette University College of Law and also served as President of its Multicultural Law Students Association.
Todd has an active pro bono practice and is the recipient of Stoel Rives’ 2021 Andrew Guy Pro Bono Award. Deeply committed to making a positive and lasting impact on his community, he is also the Chair of the Board of the Maurice Lucas Foundation, which develops and operates educational and activity-based after-school programs that create opportunities for inner city middle school students and also supports those students through high school and into college.
“We are grateful to Penny and David for their leadership in Portland over the past five years, particularly their strong and consistent guidance helping the firm successfully navigate during the ongoing pandemic,” said Jones. Serrurier and Filippi will now be able to focus full time on their busy practices, Serrurier in private wealth law and Filippi in environmental/water rights law.
Stoel Rives’ Portland office is the firm’s headquarters and the largest law practice in Oregon. The firm’s Portland-based clients include some of Oregon’s most prominent companies in addition to start-up and emerging companies.
