Stoel Rives Boosts Corporate Group with Addition of Partner Meaghan Nelson in Boise

Press Release

BOISE, Idaho—Stoel Rives, an AmLaw 200 firm, today announced the addition of Meaghan Nelson to its corporate group in Boise. With more than 15 years of experience at AmLaw 50 firms and as an in-house general counsel in the technology sector, she has broad experience advising on mission-critical issues and handling transactions of all sizes.

“Meaghan is a talented attorney with a strong track record leading complex corporate transactions across a wide range of industries. Her perspective and insight will be valuable to our clients who are navigating an increasingly competitive market,” said Kevin Burnett, leader of Stoel Rives’ corporate group. “She adds bandwidth to our group at a particularly busy time and strengthens our bench; we’re happy to welcome her to our team.”

Nelson advises clients in public company reporting and securities law, shareholder engagement, and corporate transactions. She is also recognized for her strategic counsel on executive compensation plans and her leadership in guiding clients through high-stakes corporate governance issues. Most recently, she served as in-house counsel at two prominent tech companies: SingleStore, a private database company, and Veeva Systems (NYSE:VEEV), a leader in cloud software for the life sciences industry.

Nelson played a key role in Veeva’s IPO and its historic conversion to a public benefit corporation, making it the first publicly traded company to do so. She led Veeva’s M&A efforts and advised senior executives and the board on a wide range of corporate matters, including governance, SEC reporting, executive compensation, and shareholder engagement. As general counsel of SingleStore, Nelson continued her in-house leadership, streamlining go-to-market support and enhancing privacy and data security while supporting the company’s fundraising efforts, business growth, and international expansion.

Prior to practicing in-house, she started her career working at a number of leading law firms, where she honed her legal skills. She was an associate at both Gunderson Dettmer Stough Villeneuve Franklin & Hachigian, LLP, and at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Silicon Valley. She started her legal practice at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, where she was a corporate associate.

“We are thrilled to welcome Meaghan to our Boise office. Her arrival comes at an ideal time for our business community as the local economy continues to thrive,” said Christopher Pooser, the Office Managing Partner of Stoel Rives’ Boise office.

Nelson earned her J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law, summa cum laude, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif and an editor of the Illinois Law Review.  She earned her B.S. in international affairs from the Georgia Institute of Technology, graduating with high honors. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Idaho College of Law, where she teaches a course on start-up law, and is a contributing editor for CCRcorp.

“I am excited to return to private practice. Stoel’s reputation as a leading firm in the Pacific Northwest, the collegial atmosphere in the office, and the exceptional lawyers made my decision to join the firm very easy,” said Nelson. “Incorporating my recent perspective as a general counsel will allow me to provide practical guidance to our clients as we navigate the future together.”
