Stoel Rives Achieves 2023–24 Mansfield Certification Plus

Press Release

PORTLAND, Ore.—Stoel Rives, an AmLaw 200 law firm, is pleased to announce it has achieved Mansfield Certification Plus for 2023–24. The firm is recognized in the “True Trailblazers” category, which honors firms that have achieved certification and remained committed for seven to eight years. The firm has committed to continuing its pursuit of Mansfield Certification in 2024–25, as part of its ongoing commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

“We are honored to be recognized for another year of progress toward our goal of uplifting and investing in our talented, diverse talent. We have seen a positive impact on our culture, recruiting efforts, and client results in the years that we have pursued the Mansfield Certification,” said Stoel Rives’ Firmwide Managing Partner, Melissa Jones. “Our focus on fostering a diverse environment is central to our mission and firm culture. We look forward to finding new ways of driving forward toward our goals.”

The Mansfield Certification framework is a science-backed and data-driven solution that helps boost inclusivity, access, and diversity in leadership at participating law firms. To maintain its effectiveness, the standards for Certification continue to evolve based on data-backed insights. Mansfield Certification asks firms to consider at least 30% women, underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities when considering candidates for leadership roles and promotion into equity partnership, among a dozen other activities that focus on the path to leadership. Firms should also consider at least 30% underrepresented talent for C-suite roles. Stoel Rives received Mansfield Certification Plus designation, which is reserved for firms that voluntarily report the outcomes of their inclusive processes.

“Our firm is proud to be recognized for our work in maintaining a strong culture that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion and remains as committed as ever to furthering our progress for the betterment of our firm and the industry overall,” said Stoel Rives’ Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee Chair, Karen O’Connor. “We celebrate this recognition, as well as the contributions our talent and leadership have made to fostering our culture of success and advancing our goal.”

Mansfield is a year-long structured certification process designed to ensure all qualified talent at participating law firms have a fair and equal opportunity to be considered for advancement into leadership roles. The focus is on “opening the door wider” and ensuring that opportunities for advancement are transparent and inclusive for everyone. Mansfield expands opportunities, fostering growth without imposing limitations. The data-driven methodology is rooted in changes to systems and processes and ensures that opportunities for advancement are inclusive by broadening talent pools instead of instilling quotas, set-asides, or requirements unrelated to an individual’s qualifications.
