Partner Kirk Maag Named One of Portland Business Journal’s 2018 Forty Under 40 Award Recipients
Portland , Ore. — Stoel Rives LLP is pleased to announce that natural resources and environmental partner Kirk Maag has been selected as a Portland Business Journal Forty Under 40 award recipient for 2018. The honorees were selected from several hundred nominees based on their career achievements, leadership, influence and community involvement. The winners will be honored at an event June 22 at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Portland. More information can be found here.
Maag leads Stoel Rives’ firm-wide Food & Agribusiness team, which consists of some 50 attorneys and paralegals in nine offices. His practice involves advising clients in natural resource industries, including agribusinesses, forest products companies, manufacturers, and water suppliers. He has represented clients in the acquisition and disposition of millions of acres of timberlands across the country and successfully defended irrigation districts in high-stakes federal litigation.
Maag grew up on a family farm in eastern Oregon, and the lessons from the farm are always with him, particularly the value of leadership in the community. He serves as President Elect of Oregon Future Farmers of America Foundation and Board Secretary for the Cultivating Change Foundation, an organization whose mission is to value and elevate LGBT individuals in the agricultural industry. Maag also sits on the board of the Oregon Water Resources Congress and the executive committee for the Oregon State Bar’s Environment & Natural Resources Section.
Brian Field, president of Harvest Capital Company, also serves on the Oregon FFA Foundation Board and commented that Maag has been “an integral part of business and industry’s support of the development of youth leadership throughout Oregon.”
Maag was selected as one of “America’s Leading Lawyers for Business” by Chambers USA in environmental law—as an Associate to Watch in 2016 and a Recognized Practitioner in 2017. He was also recently recognized as Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity’s Outstanding Chapter Advisor, chosen from more than 160 chapter advisors from across the United States and Canada.
