Daily Journal Names Partner Elizabeth Ewens to Its 2023 ‘Top Women Lawyers’ List
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Stoel Rives LLP is pleased to announce that Elizabeth P. Ewens, a partner in the firm’s Environment, Land Use & Natural Resources group, has been named to the Daily Journal’s 2023 “Top Women Lawyers” list, in recognition of her work on behalf of her clients in water management and environmental litigation, including comprehensive groundwater adjudications.
In a profile, the publication noted Ewens’ defense of Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency in an adjudication regarding the management and allocation under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) of groundwater resources for the Ventura County region.
“It really is a groundbreaking case,” she said in the profile, “in that it is currently the lead case in a post-SGMA world, where we are trying to marry the adjudication of water rights with this new law that has very specific provisions about how groundwater resources are to be managed in California.”
A national leader in water resources law, Ewens is California’s go-to environmental lawyer for water issues, renowned for her deep expertise in the law governing surface and groundwater resources, the surrounding property rights, and California’s history and hydrology that shape these rights, as well as for her decades of ground-breaking work and long-term relationships with public agencies, water agencies, private companies, and private landowners throughout the state.
In 2023, Ewens was named to The Best Lawyers in America® rankings in Natural Resources Law. She received her law degree from University of California, Davis, and undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
