Park and Jennifer Lane Spaith from the firm’s Seattle office have been recognized in the 2023 edition of the IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals. In addition, Stoel Rives’ patent practices in Oregon and Washington are listed as recommended practices.
Nathan Brunette focuses his practice on patent and intellectual property (IP) litigation, drawing on his experience as a former law clerk in U.S. District Court and at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has represented clients in state and federal courts, private arbitration, and Section 337 proceedings before the U.S. International Trade Commission. His experience includes litigating on behalf of technology and consumer products companies in patent, trademark, trade dress, licensing, cybersquatting, trade secret, and unfair competition matters.
Kassim Ferris’ IP practice includes domestic and international patent procurement, strategic patent-portfolio management, patent opinions, technology licensing, technology development and collaboration agreements, patent enforcement, and IP dispute resolution. He also advises clients on national security reviews by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, IP issues in government contracting, and compliance with U.S. export controls, sanctions, and embargoes.
Steven Lovett focuses on commercial disputes between competitors, especially patent, trademark, trade secret, and other unfair competition cases. He has advocated for clients from a wide variety of industries, including consumer products and apparel, food processing, manufacturing, restaurants and other retail businesses, Internet-based direct marketing, and construction supply.
Brian Park is the chair of Stoel Rives’ Technology and Intellectual Property group and a registered patent attorney who handles high-stakes, high-risk litigation involving clients’ most important assets, including their technologies, secrets, brands, creative work product, and business deals. In addition to all forms of IP conflicts, he also manages complex commercial litigation involving technology, contract disputes, unfair competition, and corporate espionage.
Jennifer Spaith counsels her clients in the acquisition and enforcement of all forms of IP—from patents to copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets—and assists them in balancing their approach to their IP portfolios. She has deep and specific experience with patent prosecution and portfolio management, including the development and analysis of litigation-ready patent assets, and leverages her technical background to work skillfully in complex electrical and software disciplines and adjacent fields.
Robert Teel is a registered U.S. patent attorney in the firm’s Portland and Boise offices, where he uses his electrical engineering, business, and legal experience to develop thoughtful IP strategies for technology companies, particularly for those designing sophisticated software, electrical circuitry, and optoelectronics. His legal practice includes U.S. and foreign patent procurement, worldwide patent-portfolio management, patent opinions, product clearance and freedom-to-operate assessments, IP transactions including IP aspects of corporate mergers and acquisitions, and patent disputes.
The IAM Patent 1000 identifies and reviews the top firms and individuals engaged in patent prosecution, litigation, and transactions practice in more than 40 jurisdictions. Firms participate in the research process by providing written submissions and client contact details for reference purposes and by making patent practice representatives available for interviews.
