Karin D. Jones Discusses Families First Coronavirus Response Act with KUOW
Labor and Employment group partner Karin D. Jones was interviewed by KUOW’s Ann Dorfeld for an article entitled “Parents: You may qualify for three months of paid leave during the pandemic.”
The article features a Q&A with Jones explaining the details of the federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and the expanded leave policy for parents. If parents are home caring for their children due to school or child care closures related to Covid-19, they may qualify for 12 weeks of leave from work under the FFCRA: two weeks of unpaid leave, for which sick leave (including FFCRA Emergency Paid Sick Leave) or vacation time can be used, then 10 weeks of leave at up to two-thirds of the employee’s usual pay.
Jones said, “It may be a fairly large deal for the section of the population with small kids at home right now, and having to juggle those responsibilities along with work - or trying to work.”
