SALT LAKE CITY — Stoel Rives LLP is pleased to announce that business litigation and trial attorney Romaine Marshall has joined the firm’s litigation group as a partner in its Salt Lake City office. In addition to his experience as lead counsel in a variety of business disputes, Marshall brings substantial experience as a cybersecurity and privacy lawyer.

“Adding Romaine to our team strengthens our already-top-notch group of litigators,” said Salt Lake City Office Managing Partner Scott F. Young. “In addition, Romaine’s background in cybersecurity and privacy law enhances our ability to address data security matters that are of critical, and growing, importance to our clients.”

Marshall has worked with clients to develop industry-specific cybersecurity programs, conduct risk assessments and internal privacy audits, and respond to regulatory investigations. He has represented clients in more than 100 incidents involving data breaches, malware attacks, security misconfigurations, wire fraud, software vulnerabilities, social engineering, and other exploits.

“We are thrilled to have Romaine join our team,” said Hunter Ferguson, chair of Stoel Rives’ Privacy and Data Security practice. “He brings a wealth of practical experience, deep knowledge, and creative insight to our practice.”

“I am pleased to join Stoel Rives and offer high-caliber legal counsel in the areas of cybersecurity and privacy,” Marshall said. “I love Salt Lake City, and I’m proud to be able to contribute to the economic success of its many businesses and industries. I also love that Stoel Rives is well-established in Portland, Seattle, California, and other locations.”

Marshall received his law and bachelor’s degrees from Brigham Young University. After law school, he served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable J. Thomas Greene of the U.S. Federal District Court for the District of Utah, and was an associate at Kirton McConkie PC, and most recently a partner at Holland & Hart LLP.
