Seattle Sounders Football Club Opens New State-of-the-Art Training Facility
Stoel Rives congratulates client Seattle Soccer LLC on opening its new headquarters and training facility for the Seattle Sounders Football Club. The Sounders FC Center at Longacres in Renton, Washington, features four full-size training pitches, a full kitchen with a private chef, locker, and weight rooms, and a barber shop, along with 50,000 square feet of space to house the club’s soccer operations and front office personnel.
Stoel Rives’ Construction & Design partner Colm Nelson drafted and negotiated the construction and design contracts, and related matters, for the development of the headquarters and training facilities, marking the third major construction project he has worked on for a professional sports team in the past few years.
“Stoel Rives represented us in negotiating the contract with our general contractor for this project, which achieved all the goals we wanted including sustainability and workforce development opportunities for women and minority construction workers and subcontractors, amongst other priorities,” Sounders’ Chief Operating Officer Maya Mendoza-Exstrom said.
The Seattle Sounders FC was established in 2007 and began playing in Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2009. Among the league’s most successful teams, the team has topped the U.S. Open Cup four times and won the Supporters’ Shield in 2014 and MLS Cup in 2016 and 2019.
