SALT LAKE CITY- The six winners of the second annual Stoel Rives UTAH INNOVATION AWARDS will be announced at an awards lunch on May 20 during the Edison Conference at the University of Utah. All eighteen finalists will be recognized and honored during the AWARDS ceremony.
The 2004 UTAH INNOVATION AWARDS recognizes top innovations in these six areas of invention:
- Biotechnology
- Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals & Nutraceuticals
- Medical Devices
- Computer Software & Web Services
- Electrical Devices
- Mechanical Devices & Advanced Materials
"The UTAH INNOVATION AWARDS program is an excellent way to shine the spotlight on promising Utah endeavors," says Kevin Laurence, a founding organizer of the AWARDS program. Presenting the awards during the Edison Conference is consistent with organizers' goal of connecting such endeavors with the financial and mentoring resources that will help them succeed, a highlight of the Edison Conference.
According to Dr. Terry Chatwin, Edison Conference organizer, "Several entities in the community have recognized a need to bring together inventors and entrepreneurs." The awards program is sponsored by Wasatch Digital iQ magazine, the Utah Engineering Experiment Station at the University of Utah and the law firm Stoel Rives LLP, with support from MountainWest Venture Group, Utah Information Technology Association and Utah Life Science Association.
Named in honor of Thomas Edison, one of history's most prolific inventors and successful entrepreneurs, the Edison Conference is a day-long event for inventors, entrepreneurs, and high-tech startup companies and melds two formerly separate conferences: the Inventions to Commercialization Conference sponsored by the Utah Engineering Experiment Station at the University of Utah and T2M's Base Camp.
The awards lunch will be held Thursday, May 20, 2004 at noon in the University of Utah Olpin Union Building Ballroom. The cost to attend the awards lunch only is $40 per person or $320 for a table that seats eight. The registration fee for the Edison Conference is $95. The cost includes a May 19 pre-event reception and the May 20 day-long event, including the awards lunch.
