PORTLAND- Stoel Rives LLP, a full-service business law firm, is pleased to announce the firm has earned recognition as a Portland Climate Champion by the BEST Business Center, who receives support from the City of Portland, Portland General Electric, Pacific Power, the Portland Development Commission, and Metro.
Portland Climate Champions are recognized businesses that have taken comprehensive, concrete actions to reduce their carbon emissions. To achieve Portland Climate Champion status, Stoel Rives improved its energy efficiency by providing alternative transportation for employees, and implemented a robust waste reduction and recycling program.
"Congratulations to Stoel Rives on becoming a Portland Climate Champion," said Mayor Sam Adams. "We appreciate their leadership in taking a comprehensive approach to reducing their carbon emissions. Their initiative serves as a model for Portland's business community and their efforts support the City of Portland's goals towards dramatically reducing carbon emissions, as outlined in the City's Climate Action Plan."
Stoel Rives created its P2 Sustainability certification program in an effort to encourage and recognize firm employees for adopting and engaging in personal and professional activities that will reduce their individual impact, and the firm's overall earth impact. Combined with the firm's internal Go Green campaign, both programs provide employees with information and recognizes personnel for conserving energy, supporting clean energy production, reducing waste, utilizing mass transit, selecting environmentally friendly vendors and products, and incorporating other responsible environmentally sustainable behaviors into their lifestyles in the office and at home. "We've been trying to push the market with our sustainability efforts," said Mark Morford, partner and chair of the firm's Go Green Committee. "For example, we encourage recycling and composting by taking away everyone's desk-side trash cans."
