At the new sustainable business project at the University of Oregon School of Law.On January 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Stoel Rives LLP will host a reception for this project designed to prepare law students for excellence in the growing field of environmentally conscious business law. Attendees will include Ms. Kelly Skye, general counsel for the office of Gov. Kulongoski, and a representative from the Oregon Dept. of Energy.
Bill Holmes, a partner at Stoel Rives and leader of the firm's Energy and Telecommunications practice, will conduct the initial course, "Renewable Energy Law," for the project.
Holmes said, "The time is right for a sustainable business project because Oregon is committed to the growth and success of the renewable energy industry. Our goal is to educate law students and future leaders about how energy law, environmental law and business law can help entrepreneurs succeed, while at the same time improving the health of our ecosystems."
Margie Paris, law school dean, confirmed that sustainable business is one of the law school's key efforts. "We're so grateful for Stoel Rives' leadership in this field," she said. "Bill Holmes' course is the first one of its kind in the nation that we know of."
