Long-Term Funding Partnerships Better Bet for Wave Energy Financing

Summary:

SNL FERC Power Report reported on remarks made by Stoel Rives attorney Wally Van Valkenburg at the August 3-4 Ocean Renewable Energy Conference IV. The conference, hosted by Oregon Wave Energy Trust, focused on regulatory, permitting and financing issues confronting the nascent U.S. ocean energy industry.

Van Valkenburg said that the wave energy industry should concentrate on long-term funding partnerships rather than look to venture capital or government incentives. "Really big, well-capitalized strategic partners are a more likely source of funding [for wave energy projects] than the VCs," he said.

"Experts: Wave energy financing likely to come from long-haul partnerships" was published by SNL FERC Power Report, August 10, 2011.
