Federal Stimulus Package Impacts Infrastructure, Renewable Energy and Health Care
3/4/2009
Stoel Rives attorney and managing partner of the firm's Portland office Walter Van Valkenburg discussed in
The Portland Business Journal the impact of the $787 billion federal stimulus package. The stimulus includes $150 billion in infrastructure spending and creates new incentives to double the amount of power generated in the United States from renewable energy sources.
Van Valkenburg identified three areas he expects to benefit as stimulus money turns plans into actual projects: infrastructure, renewable energy and health care. He said Stoel Rives was leading the charge to determine how clients can take advantage of the stimulus. "Whenever there are large amounts of money moving around the economy, there typically is a role for lawyers to play. I can't say it's everybody's favorite thing to read federal legislation, but at least we know how to do it."
