Whether you are a seasoned lateral, or a newly licensed associate, our diverse practice areas and national presence offer a platform for intellectually stimulating work with sophisticated clients. We prioritize inclusivity and belonging, providing opportunities for pro bono work, mentoring, and community engagement.
Founded in 1907, Stoel Rives has evolved into a leader across various legal disciplines, including corporate, energy, environmental, and more. Our culture is rooted in core values of excellence, integrity, and a commitment to exceptional client service. We provide a supportive environment that respects inclusion and encourages attorneys to bring their authentic selves to work.
For Lateral Attorneys: We facilitate a seamless transition for lateral associates, of counsel, and staff attorneys by integrating them into our practice groups and leveraging our robust professional development resources. At Stoel Rives, collaboration and support are not concepts; they are integral to our approach, setting us apart as a leading law firm.
For Lateral Partners: We offer an optimal platform for seasoned attorneys to advance and elevate their careers. With our extensive network and broad client base, lateral partners at Stoel Rives are strategically positioned to leverage their expertise within an entrepreneurial and collaborative environment.
For Judicial Clerks: We highly value the courtroom insights that judicial clerks bring to our team. Recognizing the unique perspectives they offer, we actively recruit clerks to contribute their valuable experience to our practices. While we consider clerks on a rolling basis throughout the year, our needs will dictate if we are able to meet with you for a post-clerkship opportunity.
Competitive Total Rewards. Stoel Rives offers a competitive total rewards package that includes base salary and performance bonuses, which reflect our commitment to rewarding excellence. Our compensation and rewards structure are reviewed regularly to stay competitive across our markets.
Billable Hours. Full-time associates have a yearly expectation of 1,800 billable hours. Associates receive up to 50 hours of billable credit for approved pro bono work.
Performance Evaluations and Feedback. At Stoel Rives, we prioritize our attorneys' professional growth through a structured evaluation process. Our annual formal evaluations serve as a platform for comprehensive feedback and career development discussions, often led by practice group leaders or assigned mentors. We actively encourage ongoing informal feedback, fostering an environment of open communication and continuous improvement.

We invest in each attorney's career growth, fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and professionalism. Our commitment to development ensures our clients benefit from highly skilled and cohesive legal teams.
Orientation and Integration. New attorneys embark on a comprehensive orientation, where they become acquainted with our systems, processes, and firm culture. We prioritize seamless integration through mentoring and career advisory relationships, ensuring a supportive start to their journey with us.
